THE LAW OF SPIRITUAL SENSITIVITY

THE LAW OF SPIRITUAL SENSITIVITY

It is with desire that I set out to pen these few words. That desire is burning and I feel like something unthinkable is about happening to someone without this message. The simple reason for this is because spiritual sensitivity is one great need of the hour. It is indeed a need for all seasons!

Hear me;

  • Many have lost opportunities because of lack of spiritual sensitivity.
  • Many have died before their time for lack of spiritual sensitivity.
  • Many have missed their time for lack of spiritual sensitivity.
  • Many have tarried longer than necessary for lack of spiritual sensitivity.
  • Many have fallen into traps for lack of spiritual sensitivity.
  • Many have gone bankrupt for lack of spiritual sensitivity.
  • Many have abused their helpers for lack of spiritual sensitivity.
  • Many have suffered depression for lack of spiritual sensitivity.
  • Many have encountered avoidable accidents for lack of spiritual sensitivity.
  • Many businesses have crashed for lack of spiritual sensitivity.
  • Many marriages have collapsed for lack of spiritual sensitivity.
  • Many ministries have stalled for lack of spiritual sensitivity.

Friend, the result of a life void of spiritual sensitivity is shallowness. It is a life headed with rapid speed for a disaster. Spiritual sensitivity is the harbinger of excellence and greatness in life. To be spiritually insensitive is to be dead awaiting burial without knowing. I would pay a billion dollar to purchase this divine asset any day if it were a commodity in a market. It is so crucial!

The Lord Jesus wept over Jerusalem for they lacked the understanding of the times. Jerusalem was not sensitive. Luke 19:41-42.

King Hezekiah sold off the destiny of his generation because he lacked spiritual sensitivity. Isaiah 39.

But the woman Abigail’s sensitivity, though married to a rich fool, delivered her household from doom. 1st. Sam. 25: 23-32.

And just in no other person was this divine grace made more manifest than in the life of the great Patriarch, even father Abraham. He was so graced!

One cool evening, Abraham sat to freshen up under a tent in his city. Then he saw three strangers on their way to where he knew not. He ran to receive them and brought them under his roof to entertain after much persuasion. His sensitivity in the spirit was the cause. It was a strange act then as it is now. He could have taken the path of suspicion as you and I would naturally have done. Suspicion is our natural and immediate disposition to strangers especially when they show up in odd hours. Our thoughts would be filled with could they be robbers, assassins, insurgents, kidnappers or some shady dealers? But he chose to be sensitive. Spiritual sensitivity is a supernatural perception of a rare spiritual atmosphere. He felt an aura, an air. There was a divine environment around these ‘strangers’ that could not escape his nosy spirit. He felt the touch of heavenly strangeness and an unusual carriage not commonplace. There was a magnetic connect of spirits. Genesis 18. This experience via spiritual sensitivity not only brought the confirmation of God’s covenant with Abraham, it also witnessed an unusual interaction between divinity and humanity; God and Abraham transacting the destiny of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Beloved, spiritual sensitivity does not flow as mere goose pimples. It is thicker than that! It is not a matter of swollen heads or an emotional freak. It is not an instinctive desire. It cannot be accessed by scientific experiments. Nay. What then?

Spiritual sensitivity is the quickening by the Holy Spirit of the human spirit regarding an experience or expectation. It is intended to reveal a presence or imminence. It is designed to prevent untoward surprises. To be sensitive therefore is to be on top of your game. It is to have the command over the affairs of life.

Why do men miss out?

  1. They live by senses. It does not look like it. Man is generally motivated by what appeals to his sense experience. The spiritual is a little weird for him. His philosophy is too sophisticated to succumb to what he deems to be ‘superstitious’.
  2. Too careless in attitude. He has little or no time to take a second look at issues. He accepts them as they appear. He is too casual and superficial. He lacks depth.
  3. Presumption… His is a choked mind. No open mind on any issue. Nothing engenders frustration like presumption. He lives on believing all things, assuming all is well. He never stops to carry out any real checks. He does not raise relevant questions about why certain things work or not work.

How to sharpen your sensitivity?

  1. Embrace the Holy Spirit. The Holy Bible says, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ”. 1st. cor. 2: 9-16.

Spiritual sensitivity is a produce of the Holy Spirit of God. You cannot access the things of God unless you belong to Him. So, embracing Holy Spirit presupposes you are BORN AGAIN. When the condition for salvation is met, the Holy Spirit comes in to reveal to you those things which have been freely given to you from above. One of the ways He does this is to poke you, ginger you, inspire you, move you, stir you and arouse you to take certain steps or make particular moves. The Holy Spirit specializes in undertaking for the redeemed of the Lord. He sensitizes them to keep them alert and ready for eventualities. But, He can only do this when you are in relationship with Him through deliberate fellowship.

  • Study and meditate in the word. The Joshua example. Josh. 1:8, 5:14-15.God told Joshua what the secret of success was and is. He was to meditate in the word day and night. I believed Joshua lived on this divine counsel; for much later when the Captain of the host of heaven came to support their battle, he was able to quickly sense his presence. Think about what could have happened had he missed that experience. Abraham too was probably meditating on the promise of God under the tent when He saw the Angels coming.

Reading, studying and meditating in the word of God sharpens your heart to receive divine signals. It prepares you to recognize the prodding of the Holy Spirit concerning life’s issues. Those who feed on the word are usually highly sensitive in the spirit.

  • Watchfulness: “Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is”. Mark 13: 33. I love this scripture. Spiritual sensitivity demands watchfulness. You are to pray. More so you are enjoined to watch. You do not know the hour of your visitation. You cannot afford to lack oil in your lamp when the bridegroom will appear. You cannot afford to live in revelry and be caught unprepared when the house owner shall return. You cannot be here and there and allow the man under your care to disappear when your boss demands for him. Your eye must be single. Your focus must be sharp. Your antenna must be upright picking signals with heavenly accuracy. WATCH!!!

IT IS Well.
