THE HOT PURSUIT OF GOD…. Psalm 42: 1 – 2.
“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?”
There are too many things competing for the little space in the human heart! They move man to seek things he erroneously believes will offer succour from the scotching heat of life’s pressures!
Man is in hot pursuit of comfort!
Man is in fervent desire for fulfillment!
Man is in a hot chase after acceptance!
Man runs a hot passion for new discoveries!
Man is in a hot hunt for romance!
Man yens for both social and political relevance! Power is his hunger!
Take a look at the list of interests he feeds his mind with and you can quickly understand the thrusts and therefore also the turns of his life!
Yet, there is a God- shaped vacuum in his heart that clearly predicts the construct of man’s life. This God- shaped vacuum is yearning and supplicating for attention. Man’s failure to satisfactorily address this hankering in the mind is the reason for his lack of true fulfillment.
Hear me, only a genuine quest for more of God can totally satisfy the needs of man! No one by accessing all their cravings after ephemeral realities can truly enjoy satisfaction. The more of them you acquire the more you desire! You never get enough of them. Prov. 30: 15.
Permit me to emphasize that a hot pursuit of God is the greatest need of the hour! This only; fulfils man!
“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee”. Psalm 63: 1-3. This was the heart cry of King David. He was too sure of what he wanted in life! His passion was for all of God! Little wonder he was a man after the very heart of God! Verse eight of that Psalm says “My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me”. I can never recover from the influence of those words in my life! But after what does your own soul passionately long? Just what do you pant after? Are you also in hot pursuit of God?

Moses got what no one else ever got. He saw the backside of God. He communed with God not just through visions and dreams but mouth to mouth. Waoh! I don’t know what you want, but for me nothing could be more ennobling than such an experience. You also can experience God real time after this manner for He is not the God of the Jews alone but of all! It was Moses’ thirst that brought him that far. It will do so for any one! Dear God; that my soul may not know any respite until I can run with this kind of testimony! Amen.
Christ the Lord says, to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, is the secret behind access to all the good things of life. Matt. 6: 33. Ruminate on this a moment! Sounds very interesting? But I tell you it is more than interesting; it is awesomely revealing! The one thing to do to get all other things has been given. It is a white hot burning passion for God and His kingdom. What holds you back? Believe me, the word is true! Join in this hot chase for God. I am committed! Are you?
What things enhance this order of pursuit for God?
- Love for the word!
- Love for prayers!
- Love for worship!
- Love for Kingdom service!
- Love for souls!
- Love for righteousness!
How can I encounter grace for a hot pursuit of God?
- Salvation…John 3: 3-8.Without salvation, no access can be obtained for the goodies of eternal life! No one can develop hunger for what he has no capacity to understand. Understanding of spiritual matters only comes after redemption from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God’s dear son. So, repentance and regeneration is precedent to thirst for spirituality!
- Persistent Desire…Isaiah 55: 1, John 7: 37. Genuine thirst is what it takes to be in hot pursuit of God. It is a condition of not being satisfied with present level of walk with God. It is born of a heart that is lost in the desire to be deeper. You are not content with the voice, not even with the way or presence; you have a knowing that there is a reality beyond you have touched, tasted, smelled or handled. Like Moses you want to see the glory of His person. You are pressing like Paul to enter into the Holy of holies where ultimate revelation is possible. How thirsty are you? God always pours His water on the thirsty! He never disappoints the desires of His just ones!
